This is a three-storey private house with a garage and underground floor located in Drøbak, Norway. This was one of our first projects fully modeled in Tekla Structures. At the time, it was a real challenge, as Tekla was not originally intended for modeling multi-layer timber structures. However, it provided a unique opportunity to explore the full potential of Tekla and to prove that such structures could be designed within the software. Later, our company developed the MPD EDIT, MPD Timber Frame, and Glulam Connections plugins to simplify the modeling of similar structures.
Main Part Design OÜ was responsible for:
Development of the structural BIM model
Structural calculations, including stiffness of the house and structural connection calculations
Production drawings, including part and assembly drawings
Production specifications and shipping lists
General arrangement drawings
Structural Overview
The building was constructed using timber-frame technology, with a flat ventilated roof, parapets, and timber floor panels. Due to the architect’s design, which included large floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, glulam stiffening frames with concealed steel plates connected by dowels and bolts were installed in these areas to ensure structural rigidity.
